Breast augmentation has quickly become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Firmer, fuller breasts round out a woman’s appearance, so she feels more comfortable in her own skin. Clothes look and fit better. Happiness and comfort with one’s own appearance boosts self-esteem too. With offices in Kirkland and Auburn, Dr. Mark Tseng offers breast augmentation including saline, silicone, and fat transfer procedures to help women achieve the figures they desire.
No two women have the same figure. Each woman’s uniqueness requires their cosmetic procedures to be individually tailored. This produces a more natural, appropriate look for each patient’s body type.
Breast augmentation, also called augmentation mammoplasty, is performed to enhance the size of a patient’s breasts. The procedure may be performed using breast implants or a fat transfer. Women’s breasts change shape over time due to pregnancy, weight loss or gain, and age. Patients may opt for a breast augmentation to increase breast volume, to create a fuller breast shape, or to improve breast symmetry. Women considering breast augmentation surgery may wish to achieve the following goals:
A consultation is necessary for cosmetic procedures. During this time, Dr. Tseng reviews the patient’s medical history and discusses the goals and expectations. This appointment helps determine the appropriate procedures for an individual’s body type and goals.
Regardless of the type of breast augmentation surgery, it is an outpatient procedure. Patients need someone to drive them to and from the procedure and to stay with them the night of surgery. Anesthesia is used to maintain patient comfort throughout the procedure. During a fat injection breast augmentation, the fat is first extracted, harvested and purified, and then injected into the desired area.
Breast augmentation using fat transfer involves using liposuction to remove fat from an area of the body with excess, often the thighs or abdomen, and injecting it into the breasts. This surgery may be ideal for women who want a small, yet natural-looking increase in breast size. This procedure uses a patient’s own fat, so it is more natural, safe, and has less chance of an allergic reaction.
Since larger incisions are unnecessary for this procedure, sutures may not be needed. Following this plastic surgery, patients may notice some discomfort. Bruising and swelling are also common. Patients should avoid sleeping or placing pressure on their chests for a couple weeks to reduce the risk of damaging the transplanted fat cells. Results are immediately noticeable. However, some of the initial volume and projection may fade as the body absorbs some of the fat. Depending on the patient, a tissue expansion may be recommended first to improve the results. Touch-ups may be necessary to maintain the desired level of fullness.
